Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism Award for Rainforest Scuba

30 Jun

Luana Royle, a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor from Finch Hatton in Queensland had an evening to remember when her business, Rainforest Scuba was awarded – not one, but two – Mackay Region Tourism Awards. Luana successfully took out the Award for Eco Tourism and the Mackay Regional Council Award for Adventure Tourism.

Luana Royle accepts the award for Eco Tourism from Mackay Tourism Ltd. Board Member, Scott Rebgetz

Held at Clermont (approx. 290kms south west of Mackay) during May, 2015 over 100 people attended the Gala Dinner to announce the Mackay Region Tourism Awards which celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of tourism and hospitality operators and service providers in the Mackay and Isaac district.

Danny Dwyer, (Vice President, Marketing, Sales, Field Services and Business Development – PADI Asia Pacific) recognised the success,

“Extending sincere congratulations from us all at PADI on your achievements at the Mackay Region Tourism Awards. Winning the Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism awards is an amazing success story for you and Rainforest Scuba. The team at PADI wish you the best of success in 2015 and for many years to come.”

Apart from Great Barrier Reef ocean dives, Rainforest Scuba – a PADI Dive Centre – offers a world first; a chance of a lifetime to dive in the rainforest’s crystal clear freshwater at Finch Hatton with turtles, fish, gordian worms, eels and if you’re one of the lucky ones – a platypus. It’s the only dive shop in the world where you can gain this unique experience – diving in the rainforest waters with a chance of being there at the same time as a platypus.

Luana expressed her delight on receiving the recent awards, “When they announced the winners, to say I was absolutely dumbfounded would be an understatement. I didn’t think I would win and was so over the moon, I was speechless – which for me to say – is very unusual! Gaining these awards have made way for Rainforest Scuba’s nomination in the 2015 Queensland Tourism Awards to be held later this year in Brisbane.”

Tourism Fiji’s Business Development Executive Cameron Taylor also recently traveled to Fiji to find out. Cameron was invited to Vomo Island Resort situated in the Mamanuca group to complete his PADI Open Water Diver Course.

Here’s what Cameron had to say:

cameron-taylor“After completing my online training with PADI I recently travelled to Vomo Island Resort in Fiji to complete the practical side of my dive certificate.

It had been explained to me before I left that their facilities, equipment and PADI expert dive instructors were of the best standard around so I was very excited to embark on my adventure with them.

When I arrived at Vomo Island I was not disappointed, the staff at Ocean Play were absolutely fantastic, they were welcoming, very knowledgeable, very skillful and made my experience one to remember.

My Dive Instructor Ornella (OJ) was very professional and very thorough taking me through all the important steps before we explored the many fantastic reefs that Vomo Island has to offer.

Fiji is a wonderful place to learn how to dive and with the many PADI sites available you will be sure to get the best equipment, Instructors and dive sites the world has to offer.”

Cameron enjoyed his course and the diving in Fiji so much hes already gone back for more and with more than 60 PADI Dive Resorts to choose from across multiple of Fiji’s beautiful islands there is no shortage of options no matter what you are after!

5 Reasons to Go Digital with PADI

24 Jun

padi-digital-productsThe PADI Digital Product Suite is a collection of industry-leading products designed to modernize and enrich the learning experience of students and PADI Professionals. Here are 5 reasons why you should make the switch from paper to digital, if you haven’t already…

#1 – It’s the way divers learn today.

These days, many customers are permanently attached to their digital devices: mobile phones, tablets and laptops. By offering PADI’s Digital Products, you’ll be able to offer these students a fully interactive and highly engaging way of learning that will live up to their modern day expectations of learning in the fast paced digital world.

The Benefit to You: Engaged customers will enjoy their experience and be more likely to recommend your business!

#2 – You’ll have the flexibility to order on-demand.

PADI Digital Products can be purchased through the PADI Online Shopping Cart, (available via the PADI Pros’ Site), so you’ll be able to enjoy 24/7 access 365 days a year.  Being as the products will appear in your PADI Online Processing Center account almost instantly you’ll be ready to register your next student without interruption – anytime of the day or night. This means you can order products to suit your student’s demands.

The Benefit to You: Purchasing materials as and when you need them and removes the need to tie up business resources in supplies of extra stock.

#3 – No shipping means less costs.

Due to PADI Digital Products being digital, it means there’s no paper involved – the products are delivered to you electronically via the Online Shopping Cart/Sales Department and PADI Online Processing Center and from there, delivered to your student via the PADI Library App.

The Benefit to You: No physical product means no need to ship products, which reduces overheads and helps keep your costs to a minimum.

#4 – Staff and students will benefit from enriched teaching opportunities.

With interactive content, quizzes, videos and intuitive gesture-based navigation, PADI Digital Products offer an enriched learning experience. Excited students are usually waiting for knowledge development to finish so they can get to the water, but with this engaging way of learning, they’ll be immersed in the theory and potentially tricky topics will be transformed into a fun experience for everyone.

The Benefit to You: Not only does it lead to more effective teaching schedules but students will want to keep on learning – and diving – with you!

#5 – It’s kinder to the environment.

With the ever-growing impact of conservation charities such as Project AWARE, and with divers’ being encouraged from all sides to protect and preserve the natural environment, it makes sense for Dive Centers to conduct themselves in line with the greener values of the diving community. By using PADI Digital Products, you’ll be using less paper, and using less paper will reduce physical waste as well as help to save the world’s rainforests.

The Benefit to You: You and your customers will appreciate – and feel good about – being able to teach and learn in a way which reduces the impact on the environment.

Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney Celebrates 15 Years

22 Jun

Abyss Scuba Diving, a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre at Ramsgate, NSW, commemorated their fifteen years in business and fifteen year milestone as a Member of the PADI International Resort and Retailer Associations at the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium on Saturday 13th June, 2015. The venue provided a stunning backdrop for 85 attendees, including the Abyss team together with their invited customers and friends who celebrated well into the night.

PADI Asia Pacific was represented at the event by Danny Dwyer, (Vice President – Marketing, Sales, Field Services & Business Development) and Ian Cumming (Regional Manager) who presented the PADI International Resort and Retailer Associations’ Fifteen Year Membership Award in recognition of the symbolic milestone.

Abyss Scuba Diving became a PADI Dive Centre in May 2000 and before two years had passed, owner Peter Letts and his team had achieved PADI Five Star Instructor Development Centre status.

Abyss accomplished their long term goal of becoming a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre (PADI CDC) in April 2010 and are currently the only PADI CDC in Sydney and in the state of NSW. PADI 5 Star Career Development Centres are businesses which offer professional development beyond regular instructor training.

Always enthusiastically embracing the PADI system of diver education, the team effectively adopted the concept of PADI eLearning when it was introduced in 2007 allowing PADI divers to complete the knowledge development sections of selected PADI courses online.

This week, Danny Dwyer (Vice President, Marketing, Sales, Field Services & Business Development – PADI Asia Pacific) commended Peter and his staff, “I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and Ian and I felt privileged to join the original Abyss staff members and long-term customers to celebrate the occasion. You have a great team at Abyss and everyone at PADI looks forward to working with you for the next fifteen years. Congratulations to you all and well done!”

Abyss has achieved significant success over the years to become one of Australia’s leading dive operators.

“Fifteen years ago, I had a mid-life crisis and opened up Abyss; it was one of the best decisions of my life,” Peter Letts reflects

“Abyss is about divers having fun and enjoying diving and it was so rewarding to see so many people celebrating our fifteen-year birthday.”

Winners of multiple PADI awards and dive industry accolades throughout the years, Abyss also support their local community in many ways by donating dive courses and dive experiences. They have raised funds for charities such as Canteen and recently worked with local Lions Clubs providing a diving program and fund raising effort to benefit paraplegic and blind associations. Abyss are also actively involved in annual underwater clean-up days in and around the Sutherland Shire.

PADI Asia Pacific congratulates Peter Letts and the Abyss Scuba Diving team for their commitment and hard work and for providing great customer service over the past fifteen years.
