As of July 1st I took over the role of Regional Manager for region 22 which encompasses both New Zealand and Fiji. One of my first tasks was to hit the road and introduce myself to the members in New Zealand, and relocating from Dunedin to Auckland provided the perfect opportunity.
Starting in Dunedin I visited 25 PADI members across both the South and North Islands covering over 2000 km’s ending up in my new home – Auckland. I was welcomed in true kiwi style with cups of tea and biscuits and thoroughly enjoyed meeting both facility directors and staff and seeing facilities both large and small.
Topics covered on the trip were the Adventure Activity Audit (new legislation which requires all adventure activities in NZ to be audited by November 2014). Its great to see most members well on their way to registering for an audit. Revised Open Water Course and required implementation of the new Discover Scuba Diving participant guide.
Currently settling into life in Auckland I am very much looking forward to assisting members in the region.
Next stop – Fiji in August! This is where I am really looking forward to seeing a different side of the industry and visiting the Resorts and Dive Centres in the Islands (and of course the sun!)
If you are a PADI Member in New Zealand or Fiji and would like to get in touch with me regarding your dive centre or resort please send a message to the PADI Pros Oceania Facebook Page.
Thank you / Vinaka
