The PADI Business Academy Auckland aimed to empower PADI Retail and Resort Association Members with a number of interactive workshops. These presentations featured a range of topics relating to Social Media, ScubaEarth, Website, Email Marketing and Marketing to Chinese speaking customers. Beyond the practical skills taught, PADI Members were able to network with their Business Academy peers and presenters at a PADI Social Event.

Why Dive Sidemount?

23 Jun

PADI Sidemount DiverAs a PADI Regional Manager I have conducted several Sidemount Diver Events in Queensland since the specialty was introduced. Organising such an event is easy, and the PADI Marketing team can assist a dive centre to ensure that the social media event promotions are done professionally and effectively.

Since the PADI specialty Sidemount Diver  (Rec 7 Tec) was released I have taught a few courses in Queensland to my PADI members just to get the ball rolling on the program. The responses have been positive during and after the course but I noticed that some are just a bit conservative when it comes to the Sidemount Diver course. I have done a few presentations where members are asking why you would need two cylinders with the types of diving in the local area (depth, dive times etc). Well, you don’t need to use two cylinders while diving sidemount and why not teach your students in an area where teaching courses are relatively easy. Here are some of the benefits of using Sidemount.

  • easier equipment transportation when topside
  • reduced lower back strain
  • provides redundant gas supply
  • ability to monitor all equipment because it’s in front of you
  • increased gas supply for longer dives
  • an alternative way to streamline in the water

Because you are able to move the cylinder from your back to your side, it instantly takes the pressure off of your back and gives you more flexibility to move and enjoy your dive.  Plus, you don’t have to walk to the dive site with the cylinders on your back. You can enter the water and clip them on and go.

Prerequisites:

– PADI Open Water Diver
– At least 15 years old

Contact your local PADI Regional Manager for more information on how to get Sidemount certified.

Looking to advertise your content on Facebook?

20 Jun

Despite the dramatic decline in Facebook reach seen across many Facebook Pages, it remains one of, if not the most important online platform for businesses to reach out to their audience.

By boosting your posts and utilising the advertising manager, you can help your most important content reach a greater proportion of your Page Fans or even users who do not currently follow you. These options both require investing a small, or large, amount of money so it is important that you set things up correctly from the beginning of your campaign.

As a newcomer to Facebook Advertising, you may not know of the text-to-image ratio that determines whether you image can be used.

Your promoted image cannot include more than 20% text. This applies to promoted Page posts, offers, App advertisements and all other Ads that will show in the Facebook News Feed. Sometimes if you have more than 20% text in your image you may find that Facebook reject your image immediately or that it takes a few hours before their review process finds yours does not meet guidelines.

An easy way to test whether your image meets guidelines is to use their Grid Tool.

To use the grid tool:

  1. Go to the grid tool.
  2. Click Browse to upload an image you want to use in your ad.
  3. Click Show grid to display the image within the 5×5 grid.
  4. Click on the boxes that contain text. If text is present in 6 or more boxes, then the image more than likely has more than 20% text and may not eligible to be used in an ad in News Feed.
  5. If your image has more than 20% text, you will need to edit your Ad and replace the image.

For more tips on how Facebook and other social media platforms can be used for your dive centre or resort, contact your PADI Regional Manager.
